overly possessive of owner

My mini schnauzer cricket is a wonderful intelligent friend we have had her since she was a little baby she is almost perfect except she growls at everyone except me especially if I am around. She hasn't bitten but she sure sounds like she might.

She is three years old and it's the only thing we can't get past she even growls at my husband. there are times when she will be friendly or not complain if someone else wants to pet her. she is sensitive like if my husband and I are talking and get emotional or loud she gets up and goes in the bedroom to her hiding spot she has never been abused.

I wish I could stop the growling it scares people and embarrasses me I think she picks up on emotions and stuff. Any suggestions
