My dog is afraid to come in the door

I adopted an 8 month male schnauzer. We have a fenced yard. I put him out and he won’t come back in. When I go to get him, he runs away. I tried leaving the door open and putting treats in the doorway. He would get the food, see me and run back out. I’ve only had him 2 days. The history (which isn’t much) I was given on him may not be correct. I suspect he was outside a lot. It’s 15 degrees here so I really don’t want to leave the door open.
