My Boy Scott

My best friend, my brother, my boy - Scott

We lost our miniature schnauzer Scott to a combination of canine liver cancer and tick fever. The Vet told us that he would not live past 9th Feb, or the weekend, but he did. Scott stayed with us for 9 more amazing days. He showed us so much love, as did we him.

He finally passed at 10:45am, 17th Feb 2013, after his heart stopped for 4 minutes before resuming a rhythm. We made the call to put him down and I held him as he fell asleep.

I miss you so much boy. I love you, and I will never forget you.

Scotty love-love.

RIP Scott

So sorry for your loss, it is hard when they are taken earlier than they should be. But as with our boy Timmy, there is nothing you can do. You give all the love you can but are able to let them go to sleep. No more pain, just memories and as you say, signs they are around. Its a strange thing when something just turns your head to a familiar noise. I like to think it's Tim, reminding us he is still around! (not that we could ever forget our brave boy). Scott looks so cute as do all mini's. They leave pawprints on your heart.. We are also now starting to think about another dog, they will never replace Timmy, but we can love it with all our hearts and give it the life they deserve. RIP Scott. x

Hi Jane,

Thank you for your kind comments. It was indeed devastating for us at the beginning - we lost a part of our family that day. However, looking back, the decision to put him down was the correct one, as he was technically brain dead by then.

I take solace in the fact that he fought the good fight for 9 days and lived a fantastic life with us. He's romping around the rainbow bridge with my previous foster dog, Oreo, a Jack Russel/Wire Fox Terrier mix, who passed away due to heart failure at a young age of 7 years old.

Maybe its the Asian traditional thinking that all living things possess a soul, and their souls roam the earth for 100 days after their passing, but there were times when I could have sworn I heard the gentle pattering his feet in the living room, or caught the scent of Scott in my room.

We will be adopting a puppy or a dog once we're emotionally stable. Hopefully we'll be able to pass our love to another dog, and will be able to make a difference to one more dog who deserves to be loved.

Sorry for your loss

I can feel your pain,these schnauzers are such loving companions, and when they pass they take a part of us with them. I lost mine a year ago January, it was really hard, but I know that he is romping with lots of other schnauzers at the rainbow bridge and I will see him again someday. Yours will be with my Rusty and with so many other great schnauzers, he will be young and free forever. God bless you, and know that people care and feel your pain.
