I have been terrified of dogs for my entire life but about 15 years ago, my best friend adopted a small dog and eventually I got to where I could pet it. Then I lost my job and started walking with a former co-worker and her schnauzer. Whenever she went out of town I would watch her dogs and I really loved them. My 50th birthday was coming up and I wanted to either go to Europe or get a dog. I couldn’t afford Europe so I wanted a schnauzer because that’s the dog I knew best. I didn’t want a breeders dog so I searched online at all the humane societies in the states around Nebraska and wasn’t having any luck. Finally I looked at all the little towns in Nebraska and found Gracie in Hebron at the pound. She was overweight and had extremely dry skin and dandruff when I adopted her but I loved her so much. I got there for her just in time, because just as we were leaving another family came in asking about her. I had no supplies when I got her but that was remedied quickly. Now she is so loved and totally rules the house and she loves our long walks and squeezes into the chair besides me at every opportunity. Gracie is my family and I can’t imagine life without her.
