Miniature Schnauzer Scooter

Scooter came to us 4 months after loosing our little Greta. He is solid white and funny as all get out. He has brought so much laughter back into our home. Shower time is really funny... he puts his head past the shower curtain and of course get's wet. Then getting out is fun too... He has to dry my legs off. Play time is 24/7 in his eyes. What a blessing this 7 month old has been and is to us.

Scooter the Rescued Mini Schnauzer

I'm a volunteer for MSRH.ORG (Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston), today I went to the San Antonio Animal Care Services (SA ACS) to rescue a mini Schnauzer, and I named him Scooter.

Scooter was picked up after he was hit by car. On 29 November SA ACS did the regular triage required by their shelter regulations. During Scooter's examination the Vet indicated the following:
Exam reflects severe right forelimb (RF) lameness with no other significant abnormalities. They prescribed him Rimadyl and Tramadol for pain and inflammation. Other than that the little guy appeared to be "OK".

1 December SA ACS neutered Scooter and their exam indicated the following:

Pet continues to demonstrate toe touch RF lameness and cries out in pain when lifted from the floor despite treatment with daily Rimadyl. Last entry was: Pet is destined for transport to Rescue (MSRH).
Well, I brought him to my Vet because this little guy was apparently in extreme pain I was not sure that his RF was the cause of his excruciating pain. My Vet checked him and Scooter continue showing signs of distress. After the examination and x-rays Scooter was not calm even with the Rimadyl, Tramadol and Morfin, the manual abdomen examination proved that this was not just a limb issue. An examination of the abdomen and a scan indicated a ruptured spleen and it was bleeding internally. Dr. Chute told me that we could do emergency surgery and try to remove the spleen but it would be a very small chance at this. And if he would make it, it would be an extensive recovery.

My Vet and I made the hard decision to stop Scooters suffering and euthanized him. Although I only knew Scooter a few hours I feel that I owe him a proper trip to the Rainbow Bridge. I think Scooter will be happy to know that I'm taking to Sattler to be cremated. I will have his ashes buried under a rock with his name on it. He will be around other wonderful pets and in surrounded by a beautiful garden.

I still feel terrible about this, but I guess God do what's best for little Scooter. The shelter indicated that Scooter was approx. 6 years old, I’m not sure about that because he looks a bit older.

Again, I only knew this little boy a few hours and the pain of losing him is more than I can handle.

Scooter is just too darn cute. I am a little partial to white minis, as I have two of them myself. Enjoy your little guy, as he will give you many years of joy and laughter, not to mention loyalty and unconditional love.

He is mighty cute! They do bring a lot of joy and laughter into our homes . . . we all need some of that! He's got a beautiful white coat, too.
